Greetings  from Kirk Sinclair
I send this from sunny Novato, California, where we have a rest day before the start of our journey.  I wanted to thank my UCC family for the support you have given Ky, Cindy and myself.  The amount collected
on our behalf was truly heartwarming.  We will post periodic updates of the journey on our web site and newsletter (sign up today in order to still get the first issue of the newsletter).  Occasionally there will be a map of our progress posted.

The Hiking Humanitarian

By Kirk Sinclair

On May 25 my wife Cindy and I will be walking 5,000+ miles across the country to raise funds and awareness for humanitarian causes.  We will be supported along the way by fellow Norfolkian, Ky Byrne.
Under my mantra of Housing, Health and Hunger there are various targets for pledging donations to worthy causes, as one might for one gigantic walk-a-thon.  If Habitat for Humanity, Doctors without Borders or Church World Service are humanitarian organizations you might donate to anyways, please consider doing it through my web site.  If these organizations are not on your radar for giving, please check them out via my site and give them some consideration.  However, the more exciting part of our mission is collaborating with Lions Clubs along the way to put on a presentation based on the following message: "We work hard only for causes we believe in; we need to believe in humanity."
This responds to a trend in civic involvement that was at a low 13% in 1989 ... and has decreased since then by half!  There are positive trends with people volunteering to help the needy, but we've become dismally restrained at helping each other.  Folks, those two trends are related!
I'm asking for your assistance with our humanitarian mission in one of three ways.  Simply visiting
The Hiking Humanitarian web site will help give us credibility for Internet search engines.  I will post updates from our journey on this web site so you would be rewarded for continuing to drop in periodically. You can get even more updates by signing up for The Hiking Humanitarian newsletter from the web site, which helps us ten times as much as just visiting it.

Finally, if you think what I'm doing is worthy, please spread the word to your friends and contacts.  Use Twitter, Like and whatever other social media tools of preference to draw attention.  Please keep us in your prayers as we embark on our important journey.

Yours in Christ, Yours in Humanity
