In Loving Memory of Elisabeth Zulauf Kelemen & Dr. Pal Kelemen By Elizabeth Vergo Elisabeth and Pal Kelemen came to Norfolk in the mid 1930’s. They built a home on Loon Meadow drive and lived there until 1984 when they moved to La Jolla, California. Elisabeth was an accomplished musician, studying voice in New York, Zurich and Florence and gave concerts and recitals extensively in Europe. Pal was born in Budapest and he and Elisabeth met and were married in Florence in 1936. Elisabeth loved the opera and classical music; she shared her talents with many, as music was an important part of her life. The Kelemens traveled extensively in Latin America. Pal was an art historian specializing in Pre-Colombian and Baroque Art of Central and South America. His many books and articles were illustrated by the wonderful photographs that Elisabeth took on all their travels. The Kelemens loved Norfolk and at the time of their death in the early 1990’s, they made many bequests to Norfolk: the Norfolk Library, the Historical Society and the Church of Christ. The income from the Kelemen Music Fund is designed to augment the budget of the Music Committee and therefore provides enrichment to the established music program of the Church. The acquisition of the grand piano, special concerts and guest artists, the sound equipment, the Tiffany Consort, the recently commissioned work by Paul Halley are a few of the enrichments made possible by this Fund. These all enhance the lovely music that is given to us every week by the organist, the wonderful organ and musicians. It is with deep gratitude that we remember the loving on-going contribution that Elisabeth Zulauf Kelemen and Dr. Pal Kelemen gave to the church.
