What is our Church's Mission?
“Our purpose is to follow Jesus Christ and to keep Christ at the center of our lives.  We aspire to strengthen our identity as a home of extravagant welcome where friends and strangers alike encounter God’s love.”  This Mission Statement, prayerfully crafted and boldly embraced in 2006, rightly shapes our decision-making and visioning as we look to God’s future for Church of Christ Congregational (UCC), Norfolk.

Dare to Dream - A Vision of God’s Future for Us

BLESSINGS OF THE PAST

The year 2010 will bring Church of Christ's 250th Anniversary. This milestone affords us an opportunity to look back with gratitude upon the deep legacy of ministry that has flowed like living waters from this place since our gathering in 1760. The tradition of generosity and faith-inspired work of Church of Christ truly is cause for joy. The fruits of this giving include our beautiful buildings and our substantial endowment – but these are not assets to be taken for granted. Even as we celebrate our legacy, we are called anew to dream boldly and give faithfully toward God’s future for us in this place.

CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE

The sanctuary and Battell Chapel cannot continue to serve us and glorify God without our help. Both structures require substantial modification in order to make them safe and fully accessible. These needs include: repairing or replacing all or part of the sanctuary and chapel roofs, creating another means of egress and a fire escape on the west end of the sanctuary, improving the accessibility and appearance of the entries to both the sanctuary and the chapel, upgrading the chapel windows for greater energy efficiency, showcasing and safeguarding our Tiffany windows, creating a more appropriate walkway and entry to the parsonage, and others. We also are committed to contributing 10% of the total goal to missions and outreach work.

THE SOLUTION

Our facilities welcome those who come to Church of Christ for worship, in time of need, in search of solace or sanctuary, or simply to behold the beauty of our campus. In light of this, our highest priorities focus on increasing the safety and preserving the simple beauty of our sanctuary and Battell Chapel. In order to accomplish these goals, we are embarking on our Dare to Dream Capital Stewardship Campaign.
