From the Missions Committee: About Habitat for Humanity

October 15, 2005

Dear Congregation:

The Missions Committee would like you to be aware of the wonderful projects
being initiated by Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Connecticut, Inc
(HFHNWCT). HFHNWCT was formed in the early 1990's to serve the towns of
Canaan, Cornwall, Falls Village, Norfolk, Sharon, and Salisbury. The goal is
to build and rehabilitate homes in the six towns. To achieve this goal they
rely heavily on volunteer labor, support of our local communities and the
collaboration of partner families.

Members of the Missions Committee, along with Michael Sinclair, were able to
spend July 16, 2005 volunteering at one of the sites in Falls Village. It
was a great day! Teaming up with other volunteers in the surrounding towns
proved to be not only a productive, fun day, but also one that was
personally rewarding. Many of us were apprehensive about not having the
needed skills; however, this uneasiness quickly subsided under the guidance
of Tom Farrell, sight manager. His calm patient way, made us feel competent
and needed. Please feel free to talk to Ron Peterson, Lynn Deasy, Lisa
McClave, and Michael Sinclair about this awesome experience!

Each week Tom sends out an email stating what has been done and what is on
the agenda for that week. HE welcomes everyone over the age of 18 to join
him at the designated work site.If you would like to be included in this
email announcement, please complete the attached "Volunteer Skills and
Interest Assessment". Completing this form does not in any way commit you to
volunteering, however it will make you aware of what is being done and
where. If you choose to participate, all you have to do is call one of the
Mission and Benevolence Committee or Tom Farrell. You can stay the day or
just a few hours. Any time is greatly appreciated.

Our goal, as the Missions and Benevolence Committee, is to inform you of the
wonderful blessings that are happening in our nearby communities. We welcome
your feedback, i.e. having another organized work day. Our hope is that you
will be guided to try this experience. We are confident that it will be one
that will leave you feeling rewarded and at peace, knowing that you had a
hand in bettering the lives of others.

We are planning on having another organized workday on Saturday, October 15,
2005. We will meet at 9:00AM in the Chapel parking lot.

May you be continually blessed by God's grace
