Save the Children
Each September the Sunday School receives both progress and annual status reports from Save the Children in Mali. The question of how they are doing raises debate. However, in the words of Dunni Goodman, Field Officer Director, “We need to celebrate our successes, of which there are many, but we need to remain steadfast in our mission to create real and lasting change for children in need.” This year, new classrooms have been built which cater to over 1,000 children, and some 2,000 babies lives have been helped by Emergency Obstetric Care programs. Happily, Bakary Kone, our sponsored child, is thriving in 7th grade and is involved in several Save the Children sponsorship programs. Take a moment to view a recent photo of Bakary, along with a copy of both the annual report and letter from the Field office.
A Letter to Bakary Kone
(At Save the Children)
Dear Bakary,
How are you? If you are good, so are we! Just look to God if you are down, he loves you very much. We all love you and are your best friends. What do you like to do in your spare time, what are your hobbies? We like to praise God and Jesus, help people, do good deeds, smell candles (when our teacher lets us), sing, color/draw, give you money (right now we are collecting money for you.) Ways we help people are helping Habitat for Humanity which is a program that builds houses for people in need. People from all around come to one spot to build a home from scratch. Soon our Youth Group will go on a mission trip! Youth Group is an organization created by children like us (that help everyone and raise money.) A mission trip is when we go somewhere to help even more people . We are very happy that in Kakouna-Samba you have found tap water, however, we are saddened about the drought during the 1980s (the disco stage!). Disco is a type of dance. Do you disco? The drought information is from a letter we received. We receive many letters from you. Thank you for all of them. Also, we heard about your great soccer skills. Do you have a team in your school? Do you enjoy school? We love soccer! We have very elaborate soccer here, as in soccer travel, which is a team that goes around the state to compete in soccer games. It is very riveting! One last question, do you have corn? We love corn.
Sincerely,
Quincy Childs, Gabby Nelson, Hillary Kelsey and Church of Christ Sunday School
