RICHARD HARDEN’S ARTWORK
The two portraits hanging at the front of the sanctuary are on loan from local artist Richard “Rick” Harden. During the last years of the 20th Century, Rick spent time traveling through Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia and other parts of eastern and southern Europe where he surveyed the impact of the Cold War and ethnic and other conflicts. These works, part of his exhibit entitled “Faces of War,” bring together drawings by refugee children, photos, text and other artifacts with Rick’s original pencil portraits in a digital collage. The girl depicted is Hanife, who was drawn after a 3-day journey from her home in Suhareka. The bullet-holed wall is part of a rebuilt and refurnished elementary school in the village of Llapushnik. Patriot,
the teenage boy, was drawn in the orchard of his family after the war. Many thanks to Rick for loaning us these works of art! See John Thew for info.
